#6 and #7 connector damaged? I can repair it!!

So do you have no service issues, or even wifi issues? Although this may not be the root cause, sometimes it can actually help to have a proper, secure connection to these antenna grounding points. The dreaded #6 and #7 (3GS) connections are radio antenna  points. Many of times people put their phones back together and they rush things, don't have proper lighting, have poor eyesight, or even just being careless, they can damage this little, fragile connector.

Before panic and throw your phone out the window, read on. THIS CAN BE FIXED! I found someone selling the connectors and I bought a few. I have done a few of these repairs, and they are pretty straight forward with the right equipment and expertise. Below are the pictures of the surgery!

Old connector removed
At the top of the post, you see the original connector in pretty bad shape. No longer did it accept the ribbon side, it can also damage a new ribbon as well. Be careful trying to force anything, these things shouldn't be forced. Onto the next step!

Tada! The new one on, secure and pristine!
There you go folks, another happy customer!

  1. After trying to repair the backlight issue myself, (and ruining the #3 connector and lcd screen in the process), pulling my hair and considering the phone was a nice and classy paper holder, I decided to send my 3gs all the way from Nicaragua, Hector did an amazing job in two days. I waited longer for the phone traveling the word, than for the repair.

  2. Hector was fantastic. I sent my iPhone in Brazil and he quickly repaired and put back in the mail. The agony was waiting for the USPS, which took more than a month to deliver. At this time, Hector has helped me and request what was needed. Thank you Hector! I recommend to all your services!

  3. It's very unnerving to send an expensive phone out to someone you don't even know. I did it anyways since I don't think anyone in here in Orlando is capable of doing this repair. If they were they would charge more than the phone itself. You did a great job Hector! I can't thank you enough. You didn't even go into my email or any other personal stuff. You are a true professional and I will let people know about the quality work and service you provide.

  4. I tried to repair the #7 connector on my phone and totally mangled it. I didn't think it could be repaired as I even managed to lift one of the traces up. I found this site and thought, what the heck, it isn't going to get any worse. Huge thanks to Hector, he made it look like brand new! I now get full signal bars and the phone works perfectly! I'm very doubtful anyone else could have repaired it for such a reasonable price (if at all). Highly recommended, have no fear in sending your phone in for repair to Hector!

  5. I have a question.....This is exactly my problem. I smashed the connector but instead of hotswapping the connector do you think it would work if I just soldered the two together? Its my personal phone so I am ok with experimenting? Your expertise would be appreciated.

  6. Hi Kimber,

I have tried doing this before, but it did not work out. There are actually 2 points of contact on the board that are very close to each other. The center hole as well as the outer ring. If you can get these to both have their own connection, then it MAY work. However, it is much easier to just replace the entire connector. The ribbon side is plastic connections, and it is difficult to solder to that without melting the ribbon.

    1. Hey Hector,

so what is the charge for this repair? I think ribbon side is fine but the board side is very obviously smashed. Thanks for prompt reply.
